Hernandez was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford after being seen as surplus to requirements by manager Louis van Gaal since last summer.
The Mexico international was loaned out to Real Madrid the past season but also struggled for regular football at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Hernandez will now be confident he can play on a consistent basis for Bayer.
And the 27-year-old revealed that Man United midfielder Schweinsteiger, who spent 14 years playing for Bayern Munich, helped convince him to make the move to Leverkusen despite interest coming from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Liverpool.
Hernandez said: “Naturally I spoke with Basti.
“He had a lot of good things to say about Bayer, their way of playing and their coach [Roger Schmidt].’
“That was a very big help for me.”
‘Chicharito’ joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2010, going on to help them win the Premier League title in his first season by scoring 13 league goals.
