And he went on a fine goal-scoring run to help the Red Devils go top of the table for the first time since they were champions back in 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
This has therefore seen him beat Leicester City ace Riyad Mahrez and West Ham United midfielder Dimitri Payet on the final three-man shortlist to the award.
However, the 19-year-old was well defended by Arsenal during the weekend, as Louis van Gaal’s men succumbed to a 3-0 Alexis Sanchez-inspired defeat at the Emirates.
Last season, Martial made 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals.
