Manchester United star performer snaps at club’s awful form

In an interview with MUTV, Chris Smalling has made some damning comments on Manchester United’s appalling Europa League defeat on Thursday night.

Manchester United suffered an embarrassing defeat to FC Midtjyalland, despite going 1-0 up and pressure has grown further on Louis van Gaal as a result. United will be hoping they can turn the defeat around in the second leg, with Memphis Depay’s away goal the sole positive from the defeat.

Smalling did not pull any punches, “It was a performance that wasn’t acceptable,” the central defender told the official club channel. “We need to start rewarding these fans who travel this far and give us great support throughout the whole game.”

The Red Devils have underperformed in all competitions throughout this campaign and Louis van Gaal, despite his use of youngsters, is coming under increasing pressure with his job at threat from all angles. The gossip surrounding Jose Mourinho will not go away and the Dutchman cannot afford any more shock defeats if he is to keep his job.

It would be a miracle if Van Gaal kept his job, but Smalling’s comments at least show that the players are aware of the impact the form has upon the fans.
