Manchester United target to rot in reserves if he forces exit

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has threatened to drop Sadio Mane completely out of the squad if he attempts to force a move to Manchester United, according to reports from the Metro.

Mane has been heavily linked with a transfer away from the Saint Mary’s in recent weeks, with United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich monitoring the situation.

However, the Red Devils have been the most active in the race for his signature, having another approach this week turned down by the Saints.

But Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is adamant that Mane and Victor Wanyama, who is a target for Arsenal, will not depart this month, and will exile them to the stands if they try to force a transfer.

“If there is any player thinking if his behaviour is not good that it makes it more easier for the player [to leave], then I’ll put the player in the stands until the end of their contract,” said Koeman.

“Because in my opinion that’s not the way you have to do your job as a football player.”

Speculation surrounding Mane’s exit exploded when the Senegal international was dropped to the bench for coming late to a pre-match meeting, but it looks as if he is staying put at least till summer.

Mane has been in decent form for the Saints this season, making 25 appearances in all competitions and scoring seven goals.
