Despite being linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria all summer, Manchester United are set to drop their interest in the want-away winger, Express reports.
Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti recently stated the Argentine is demanding to leave the Santiago Bernabeu before the transfer window closes, but it now seems Manchester won’t be his next destination.
Reports have suggested that United boss Louis van Gaal is a big fan of starlet Adnan Januzaj, and believes that signing Di Maria could hinder the Belgian’s development.
The Red Devils still need to strengthen their defence and midfield, even after the £16million signing of Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo.
However, moves for Van Gaal’s primary targets have failed over the course of the summer, meaning the Dutch manager is set to focus on last minute alternatives before the window closes on September 1st.
Sami Khedira has emerged as a late option after the German World Cup winner rejected Real Madrid’s latest contract offer, and is currently valued at only £12million by the European champions.
Meanwhile new signing Marcos Rojo could make his Premier League debut this weekend, when United travel to the Stadium of Light for their clash with Sunderland.
