Manchester United to pip Chelsea in pursuit of England international

Manchester United manager David Moyes is hopeful of securing a deal to sign Southampton left back Luke Shaw in the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

Chelsea thought they were leading the race to sign the highly rated England international, who is battling with current Blues sub Ashley Cole to make the plane to Brazil for the World Cup in June.

Jose Mourinho last night conceded that the title may be gone after defeat at London rivals Crystal Palace yesterday and is now set to accept losing in the race to sign his major summer target.

Moyes has been under huge pressure this season to succeed at Old Trafford and despite fans’ protests; a win over Aston Villa was seen as a turning point for the Red Devils.

With vice-captain Patrice Evra unsure of his future, Moyes wants to add another young talent to his side in the shape of Shaw which would be a real signal of intent from United despite the £28million price tag.
