Manchester United have renewed their interest in Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas after missing out on Thiago Alcantar, according to the Independent.
European Champions Bayern Munich appear to have beated United to the signing of the highly rated 22-year-old, meaning David Moyes has now set his sights on former Gunners captain Fabregas.
Fabregas’ future at the Nou Camp has come under scrutinty this summer, with it being reported the Spaniard is unhappy at his failure to force his way into the first team on a regular basis.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for their former star, although David Moyes is desperate for a marquee signing to help get his Old Trafford career off to a positive start. It could be a difficult move to engineer however, with Arsenal understood to have first refusal on the player, with a £25million buy-back-clause said to be in the players contract.
Moyes is desperate to strengthen the centre of his midfield following the retirement of Paul Scholes, and saw it as a bitter blow to lose out on Thiago.
The young Spaniard’s move to the Allianz Arena sees him reunited with former Barca manger Pep Guardiola.
I know him very, very well,” Guardiola said. “He is a super, super player. He can play in three, four or five positions.”
