Manchester United starlet Jesse Lingard is set to join Newcastle United on loan this summer, according to reports from the Daily Star.
Lingard has been linked with a move to Tyneside after the appointment of Steve McClaren as Newcastle manager, with the former England boss working with Lingard last season when the winger was on loan at Derby County.
Despite just penning a contract extension with the Red Devils earlier this year, Lingard is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, and manager Louis van Gaal is keen to send his youngsters out for regular first-team football.
The deal could work well for both parties, as McClaren is a big fan of the 22-year-old and playing for the Magpies will give Lingard much needed Premier League experience.
Lingard surprised many in the media when he started against Swansea in United’s first Premier League game last season, but soon after he suffered a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined till February, in which he then chose to play for Derby.
The Englishman made 14 appearances in the Championship, scoring two goals.
