Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini warned his players not to get too carried away after a 5-1 win at home to Birmingham City strengthened their grip on fourth place.

Two goals apiece from Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor and one from Nedum Onuoha swept the visitors aside at Eastlands, with City now preparing for a derby clash with United next weekend.

Mancini told his club's official website:"I'm happy for the players - we played a fantastic game and congratulations to them. After 20 minutes we changed the tempo and scored three good goals.

"After three or four months together, you work very well. But I think we can improve more and we must concentrate on the next five difficult games.

"We must continue to play like we have and at Burnley last week. If we do, we have a good chance. It all depends on us now.

"At the moment we are playing good football, like a top-four team, but the Premier League is not finished yet.

"I think it is impossible to continue scoring three or four goals in the next game. We will try, but if we win 1-0 I will be happy.

"If we have 1-0 victories in the next five games, that will be good for us."

"We respect United as a good team, but we must think about our own position in the table. It's important that we believe in ourselves."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
