Roberto Mancini has confirmed that Joleon Lescott will not feature in Manchester City's last two Premier League games of the season, against Tottenham on Wednesday and West Ham United on Sunday.

The news casts doubt on whether the former Wolves and Everton defender will have recovered from a hamstring injury in time to be included in Fabio Capello's England squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa that start next month.

Lescott has been sidelined since picking up the injury during the warm-up prior to the Premier League clash at Fulham in March.

Mancini said in the build-up to the crunch clash with Spurs:"Joleon will not play for us again this season, but he will work every day and try to recover.

"I don't know if Capello has spoken to him about the situation, but I haven't spoken to Capello for the past 15 days.

"I hope that Joleon can recover in time for the World Cup, though. There is time after the season finishes for him to get fit.

"Wednesday's game is important for us and also for Tottenham, but it is a football match, not a war. The pressure is there, but that pressure is normal. We should not be nervous because we have players who have experience of big games.

"The likes of Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gareth Barry and Nigel de Jong have all played in big games like this before."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
