Everton manager Roberto Martinez has sang the praises of striker Romelu Lukaku after the powerhouse forward scored twice to help his side to victory over Chelsea.
The Merseyside outfit are through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup following a 2-0 win over the outgoing Premier League champions at Goodison Park yesterday.
Lukaku will have been extra motivated to make an impression given that he was featuring against his former club – and the giant Belgian proved the difference by netting both of his side’s goals.
The first was a sublime piece of individualism, which saw Martinez hailing the centre forward in the game’s aftermath.
“I thought it was a really good cup game and Chelsea played really well,” the Spaniard told the Everton official website.
“Eventually, the game got to a point where it needed a bit of magic.
“Sometimes these games are decided by a dead-ball situation or a mistake – and that is a real shame.
“But the memory of Romelu Lukaku’s goals made that disciplined performance all worth it today. His first goal is one of the best goals you will see scored in the FA Cup.
“He has created a great memory for every Evertonian, especially those inside Goodison Park – and it was well worthy of getting us to Wembley.”
Chelsea will surely now be regretting parting company with Lukaku, especially after Diego Costa showed his tumultuous nature by getting sent off in the clash.
The Belgian will be hot property in the transfer market this summer after another fine season for the Toffees.
