Everton boss Roberto Martinez has stated that Tottenham are challengers for the Premier League title this season.
The North London side have had a progressive campaign to date, with their 2-1 win over Watford last time out moving the White Hart Lane club within four points of top spot.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have the ultimate objective of finishing in the top four, but with the title race so open this season many are touting Spurs as a dark horse to become champions.
Tottenham travel to face Everton on Sunday, with the talented hosts also harbouring ambitions of qualifying for the Champions League this season.
Martinez was full of praise for the visitors and stated that there was no reason that Spurs could not go on and win the Premier League title in 2015-16.
“Why not? If anything this season is about consistency and whichever team is able to be consistent in the second half of the season will have a great opportunity to achieve a really, really good ending of the campaign,” The Guardian quote the Spaniard as saying.
“Spurs have a strong squad, a large squad, they’re competing in Europe. They’ve got a strong mentality as a group and I don’t see them losing any sort of energy or focus over the next few months.
“If anything, being such a young team, I expect them to grow even stronger. I see them as strong contenders for a really successful finish.”
Everton will look to bounce back at Goodison Park after losing 4-3 to Stoke last time out, while Spurs are on a good run of victories and will hope to continue this against the Toffees.
