Manchester United star Juan Mata is being tipped to be the key to helping David De Gea continue his stay at the club, according to reports from the Metro.
The 24-year-old was linked with a move to Real Madrid ever since the start of the summer, but a deadline day mishap between the two clubs eventually ended hopes of a switch.
He only has a year left on his current deal at Old Trafford as the La Liga giants could now target a free transfer for his services next summer.
However, Spanish reporter Fernando Burgos has revealed that De Gea’s close relationship with Mata could help him feel settled in Manchester once again.
“With every day that passes De Gea is feeling better [about staying],” he said.
“He is inseparable from Juan Mata. They spend all day together and are training together very well.”
The Spain international was a key performer for the Red Devils over the past two seasons, a factor which saw him named as the one of the ideal replacements for Real legend Iker Casillas.
Based on how the current campaign goes, the club will be hoping he signs a new deal in order to extend his stay in the Premier League.
