McCarthy pleased for striker

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy was delighted to see Sylvan Ebanks-Blake score his first Premier League goal in the 1-1 derby draw with Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old has been troubled by injuries since Wolves returned to the top-flight, but made no mistake from the penalty spot to secure a Molineux draw with Villa.

McCarthy told the Birmingham Mail:"He's like the rest of them, he's great around the place. We've got no issues with confidence.

"Sure it will have helped him, having scored in the Premier League, because Sylvan was our talisman in the Championship.

"But he's barely had an opportunity this season since an injury. He had one half-chance against West Ham and then he skied one against Portsmouth.

"He's played well in the games, but he's not really bothered about playing well, he wants to score. He was like a bear with a sore head when he didn't play and he thought he was fully fit, so I'm delighted he finally was.

"You've got to be fully fit. It's an unforgiving place the Premier League and, if you're not fully fit, you don't do yourself justice."
