Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has confirmed that he may make a second bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko next summer.

The 28-year-old Russia international came close to heading to St Andrew's last month, before a deal fell through due to a difference over the player's valuation.

McLeish told reporters:"We went for Pavlyuchenko, as most people know and his wages weren't outrageous.

"He's a top player. He would have enhanced the squad and been great cover for Christian Benitez and Cameron Jerome.

"No, he would have come in and really upped the ante in terms of the competition for strikers, but it wasn't to be and maybe we will revisit it."

McLeish also confirmed that he made an enquiry about Rangers star Kris Boyd, adding:"I asked the question of Rangers and Walter Smith said he was going to keep everybody until the end of the season.

"He said they were short of players anyway. If he lost any more, it would be difficult. That was a personal phone call to Walter."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
