Pundit Paul Merson has stated that he expects plenty of goals when Arsenal meet Liverpool on Sunday and has predated that the Premier League opener will finish in a 2-2 draw.
Domestic action returns this weekend and the game of the rounds sees the perennial challengers pitted against one another at the Emirates Stadium.
Liverpool’s project is growing under Jurgen Klopp and the Merseyside outfit have added a host of new faces over the summer, but the Gunners are struggling with injuries – especially in defence.
Merson has stated that both teams are not watertight and as such believes that there could be goals on show, predicting a 2-2 draw.
“The injuries are a major concern for Arsenal,” he told Sky Sports.
“They have one centre forward in Olivier Giroud when their rivals have three or four each. Don’t tell me Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott are centre forwards. They might be able to step in for one or two games but you are not going to win the Premier League that way.
“As for Liverpool, they are decent going forward, they are quick and score goals on the break, but again, defensively they are not too good either. I see plenty of goals in this one.”
Both sides will be keen to start the new season with three points and will know the importance of a strong beginning to the campaign.
Granit Xhaka could make his debut for Arsenal while Liverpool could field a host of new faces in North London.
