Barcelona defender Adriano has spoken out about Lionel Messi’s likelihood of playing in the upcoming Clasico fixture against Real Madrid, stating that he feels the Argentine will be fit in time to feature.
The four-time Ballon d’Or winner has been on sidelines for a prolonged period through injury, with a race against time to decide whether he is ready and available to take on Barca’s bitter rivals at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu this Saturday.
Messi has also been missing from international duty throughout the World Cup qualifying process to date, with Argentina not winning any of their first three games as a result.
The clash between Spain’s two biggest teams is viewed by many as the biggest game in world football, with the winner set to receive a massive boost in the hunt for the La Liga title.
If Messi does return for the game it will also see him resume his personal rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the upcoming Ballon d’Or announcement.
Adriano has stated that the 28-year-old is recovering well and is in line to feature for the Blaugrana in the Spanish capital.
“He is recovering very well, doing everything to get to the game and to have him in the team changes a lot,” The Daily Mail report Adriano as saying.
“There’s a difference when he plays or doesn’t, but in his absence we’ve managed to come together and move forward in matches.
“Every day he’s been the Leo we’re accustomed to: laughing, joking, and doing things with confidence.
“Would I put money on him playing in the Clasico? Hopefully, yes.”
