Middlesborough close in on experienced Premier League keeper

Middlesbrough could sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan on a free transfer, according to the Telegraph.

The relegated club are prepared to lose the shot-stopper for free, in an attempts to quickly get him off their books. The American was hounded by fans during last season’s disastrous campaign. The keeper played in 28 league games last season, keeping 2 clean sheets.

New Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo has recently signed Pierluigi Gollini for nearly £5million, which had already raised questions over Guzan’s future at Villa Park.

And now the 31-year-old is set to stay in the Premier League, with newly promoted Middlesbrough ready to add the experienced keeper to their squad. This is despite already signing UEFA Champions League winning goalkeeper Victor Valdes this summer.

Guzan made nearly 150 Premier League appearances for Villa, after joining the club in 2008 from MLS side Chivas.

Bozo’s first fixture back in the Premier League is at home to Stoke on August 13th
