Middlesbrough want more after eyeing Greek international

Middlesbrough may not have finished their summer spending spree, with Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris being targeted.

That’s according to Zero Zero, who claim O Jogo are reporting the story in Portugal, as Boro boss Aitor Karanka builds his squad ahead of a return to the Premier League.

The club have added Marten de Roon, Viktor Fischer, Antonio Barragan, Victor Valdes, Gaston Ramirez and Alvaro Negredo already this window amongst others, but are keen to continue their transfer activity.

Samaris played 27 times for Benfica last season, scoring twice, as he helped the club win the Portuguese top flight. The 27-year-old also played in 7 UEFA Champions League games last season, and would add top European experience to the Riverside Stadium.

The central midfielder may not come cheap after playing an important role for Benfica last season, and no fee has suggested by the Portuguese reports.

Middlesborugh’s new signings could all be in action on Saturday, as they kick off their new season back in the top flight against Stoke City.
