Ruben Loftus-Cheek has admitted that he had to leave Chelsea in this summer’s transfer window in order to further his own career.
The 21-year-old has represented Chelsea since the age of eight, progressing through the various youth teams before making his first-team debut during the 2014-15 campaign.
Loftus-Cheek made 11 appearances for the Blues under Antonio Conte last term, but he struggled for football in the Premier League, and subsequently joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan last month.
The England Under-21 international is expected to play a key role for Palace this season, and he has vowed to make the most of the opportunity which was not always provided at Chelsea.
Loftus-Cheek told Sky Sports News:
“It’s tough being at Chelsea. It’s a massive club with really good players so you don’t get the opportunity every weekend.
“Coming to Palace, I’m really excited to be playing. There’s still massive competition here.”
Chelsea opened their new Premier League campaign with a 3-2 defeat at home to Burnley at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Loftus-Cheek was a part of the Palace side that lost 3-0 against newly-promoted Huddersfield Town.
