Manchester United are believed to be preparing to keep Robin van Persie at Old Trafford by offering him a new two-year contract despite his huge decline in scoring form, Daily Star reports.
The 31-year-old’s current deal will expire in the summer of next year as the club are keen on keeping the Dutch attacker who has only scored three goals in ten appearances this season.
He is currently being linked with a possible switch to either Galatasaray or Fenerbahce, with the Turkish giants hoping they can add the services of the experienced front man to their ranks.
Louis van Gaal shares a strong relationship with Van Persie and would surely be urging him to continue his career with the Red Devils but may need to take a pay cut in order to complete negotiations.
If he decides not to extend his deal, the club will be forced to let him leave on a free transfer, a situation that may cause more harm than good.
