FC Dallas beat the Colorado Rapids 3-0 on Friday to record their first victory of the Major League Soccer campaign.Defender Ugo Ihemelu – capped twice by the United States – connected with a Marvin Chavez pass to put the hosts 1-0 up in the 26th minute at Pizza Hut Park.
Chavez was injured setting up the goal – the Honduran midfielder receiving a deep cut above the left eye following a clash of heads with Colorado’s Sanna Nyassi.
Chavez had to be substituted as a consequence, but his sacrifice meant Dallas led for the first time, four matches into the new season.
And they doubled their advantage five minutes before the break.
Colombian Fabian Castillo played in compatriot David Ferreira, who sent a chip over Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens to make it 2-0 at half-time.
Good work between Dallas captain Daniel Hernandez and substitute Eric Avila – on in place of Chavez – set up attacking midfielder Ferreria for his second goal less than a minute after restart.
The win sees Dallas climb to sixth in the Western Conference with four points from four matches played.
Colorado continue to lead the Conference with nine points from four matches played, despite surrendering the last 100 percent record in MLS.
