Monaco has come out to clarify speculation that they were keen to offer Chelsea £35million in order for them to sign under-fire manager Jose Mourinho, Mirror reports.
The Ligue 1 giants revealed that all the talks over a move for the Blues boss is false and that the media should not listen to the claims from a minority shareholder.
“AS Monaco would invite the media to not repeat extravagant and unsubstantiated rumors from a « supposedly minority shareholder,” they stated.
Alessandro Proto recently claimed that he met with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to discuss a deal for Mourinho, stating that an offer of £71million could see the Portuguese leave.
The current Premier League champions have been struggling greatly this season, already losing six out of their first 11 matches in the competitions, fuelling speculation that a new manager could be brought in.
However, the former Real Madrid boss recently came out to deny his exit rumours as he is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge given that he still has close to four years left on his current contract.
“I have four years. In this case, three years and seven months,” he said.
“Yes, I know why the results have been different but I can’t tell you because I’ll be here a long time.”
