Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that Dutch defender Daley Blind will not play a part when he takes his side to face Southampton on Wednesday night.

The versatile defender played the full 90 minutes as United lost 2-1 to Tottenham in the last game at White Hart Lane in it's current form, where Mourinho made eight changes.

The former Chelsea boss has made it very clear that he will be making plenty of changes to keep his squad fresh for their season-defining Europa League final against Ajax a week after their trip to St. Mary's.

Speaking after the loss in north London, Mourinho told the Manchester Evening News:

"The most important thing for us is no injuries, and some people having a proper rest.

"Blind had to play 90 minutes but the next match is for Blind to rest and we have to go like this step-by-step, rest people."

The 27-year-old has played key role for Mourinho this season and the fact that he has been left out of Wednesday's game points to a potential final start in Stockholm.

Despite making changes Mourinho will be hoping that it is a case of same old story against the Saints in the week, having already beaten Claude Puel's side twice this season, 2-0 at Old Trafford and 3-2 to win his first major trophy as United boss in the EFL Cup Final in February.
