Mourinho to move for former player, big-money deal

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants to raid his former club Real Madrid for defender Raphael Varane, according to AS.

The Portuguese trainer has added four new faces to his squad this summer but is believed to covet an established and dependable central defender as the final addition.

Mourinho gave Varane a chance at the Santiago Bernabeu and was key in the centre-half’s development in the Spanish capital.

With Sergio Ramos and Pepe first choice at the La Liga giants, Varane is usually on the bench for Zinedine Zidane’s men.

United have signed Eric Bailly this summer, but with Daley Blind believed to be allowed to find a new club, a deal for Varane could well fit the bill at Old Trafford.

The Real Madrid star missed Euro 2016 this summer through injury but is widely acknowledged as one of the most highly rated defenders in Europe after star performances in Spain.
