New Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will allow Bastian Schweinsteiger to leave Old Trafford this summer after only one season at the English club, according to The Mirror.
The Germany international World Cup winner moved to the Red Devils from Bayern Munich 12 months ago but struggled for form and fitness in his debut campaign in the Premier League.
Schweinsteiger started only 13 games for United in 2015-16 and with a host of new faces expected at the Manchester club this summer, the veteran could well be deemed surplus to requirements.
Much will depend on whether Michael Carrick is offered a new contract with the Red Devils, while Mourinho also has the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Daley Blind and Ander Herrera to choose from in the boiler room.
United are expected to make a high-profile signing in the centre of midfield however and this could well be the cue for Schweinsteiger to return to Germany after a short stint in English football.
