Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to let Bastian Schweinsteiger leave Old Trafford if Paul Pogba returns to the club, The Telegraph state.
The Red Devils are making inroads in the transfer market this summer, with the likes of Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic already moving to the Manchester club.
A world-record deal to resign Pogba is said to be on the cards, with Juventus confirming that negotiations with Mourinho’s men over the France international are ongoing.
Landing the player that left United on a free transfer in 2012 would give the Portuguese trainer more option in the centre of the park and potentially see Schweinsteiger relegated to fringe status.
The Germany international joined the Red Devils from Bayern Munich last summer but had an injury prone first season in the Premier League.
Schweinsteiger’s calibre and experience are undeniable, but the influx of pace and purpose provided by Pogba could well make the veteran’s role at United untenable.
