Everton have emerged as the favourites to sign Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, after Lucas Neill completed his switch to Galatasaray.

Toffees boss David Moyes is believed to be interested in snapping up the Switzerland international, who is surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is on the verge of completing the short-term capture of Sol Campbell after losing faith in the 24-year-old Senderos.

Moyes almost signed Senderos last summer after Joleon Lescott's big-money transfer to Manchester City, but was put off by the Gunners' £5million valuation of the player.

Senderos has only played two games for the Gunners this season and is keen to move away from the Emirates Stadium to improve his chances of winning a place in Switzerland's World Cup squad.

Moyes is also being linked with Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon who turned down the opportunity to move to Burnley earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Sylvain Distin has finally returned to training, following a six-week absence with a hamstring problem.

The Frenchman has been sidelined since early December when he suffered the injury in the Europa League clash with AEK Athens.Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
