N’Zogbia’s summer transfer seems likely

Wigan Athletic Chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed for the first time he expects star winger Charles N’Zogbia to leave the club this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The 25-year old moved to Wigan from Newcastle 2 and a half years ago in a £6 million deal and his fine form towards the end of the season ensured Wigan avoided relegation. He has made 90 appearances for the club scoring 18 goals on the way and made his debut for France last Summer. But the winger is keen to move to a bigger a club and wants to play Champions League football in order to boost his France prospects.

Liverpool could answer his plea if they are prepared to meet Wigan’s reported £8 million asking price. Merseyside rivals Everton are also keeping an eye on the player whilst former club Newcastle have also joined the line-up of potential suitors.

He reportedly left Newcastle on bad terms in January 2009 after falling out with then-manager Joe Kinnear claiming the club lacked ambition. However, since the club’s return to the Premier League and 12th placed finish last season under Alan Pardew, N’Zogbia would entertain the idea of a return to Tyneside.
