Gary Neville has stated that if Arsenal prepare themselves correctly for big games this season they could well win the Premier League title.
The Gunners take on Manchester Untied on Sunday in what promises to be a mouth-watering clash between two of the division’s best teams.
Arsene Wenger’s men have a poor record against fellow title hopefuls over the course of recent years, with a number of heavy defeats in the past spoiling their chances of becoming English champions for the first time since 2004.
This trend was bucked to some degree last season with an away win over Manchester City, but Arsenal were bullied by Chelsea recently in their first meeting with another title rival.
Neville has stated that the North London club’s players need to get their collective mentality right ahead of big games this season and that if they prepare properly there is no reason that the Gunners cannot have a successful campaign.
“Arsenal’s chance of winning this strange Premier League title race will improve dramatically, I believe, if they make one big psychological change,” Neville wrote in The Telegraph.
“Starting against Manchester United this weekend, they have to prepare themselves to deal with the strengths of the opposition before they can impose their own brand of football.
“I believe the league this year is up for grabs – and Arsenal have been the most consistent team in the competition since January.
“Over these past three or four years I don’t believe Arsenal have prepared mentally for the biggest games. It’s not enough for them to play their way and assume it will bring them out on top.
“It’s never enough. Big games are won by the details, the thought process, the preparation. If Arsenal make that change, they can really push for the title.”
