New Manchester City signing Fabian Delph has picked up an injury on his first outing for the Etihad Stadium club, as per the BBC.
The former Aston Villa forward started in the English side’s 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in Melbourne in a pre-season fixture in Melbourne but only last 18 minutes before having to be removed.
The England international pulled up with what looked like a hamstring injury, with it remaining to be seen just how serious the knock is.
“Unfortunately, it looks like Fabian has a problem with his hamstring – we thought it would be useful for him to play 45 minutes but he got the injury so it’s not the best news,” said Manuel Pellegrini.
“We will have a more clear diagnosis from the doctor on Saturday.”
City were thoroughly outplayed by Rafa Benitez’s men, with the Spaniards taking the lead through goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Pepe.
Although Yaya Toure pulled one back for Pellegrini’s men, Russian winger Denis Cheryshev put the result beyond doubt.
Raheem Sterling started the clash in front of 90,000 fans and was booed on occasion by the crowd.
The former Liverpool man started as City’s lone forward and won a penalty for Toure to convert, but found the going tough against the likes of Sergio Ramos in the Madrid backline.
