Bastian Schweinsteiger will sit out the upcoming pre-season friendly against Barcelona due to picking up a slight injury, as per The Daily Mail.
The World Cup winning midfielder swapped Bayern Munich for Manchester United this summer and will be charged with playing a major role in the Red Devils’ quest for silverware next season.
The veteran midfield general is one of the best in his position of the current generation, but has suffered from injury concerns in recent years.
With concern over the German’s fitness, Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Schweinsteiger has picked up his first injury since moving to Old Trafford.
The knock is said to be minor, but the veteran will not face the current European champions on Saturday as a precautionary measure.
“Schweinsteiger cannot play because he had a little injury,” Van Gaal stated.
“I never talk about the injury. I say only it is a minor issue and I don’t take risks in preparation time. He shall not even play for 30 minutes.”
The configuration of United’s midfield will be a source of real interest for the Old Traffor faithful next season, with Michael Carrick an important member of the team and Morgan Schneiderlin also joining the club over the summer months.
