Nathaniel Clyne has claimed that Liverpool have the ability to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for the Premier League title this season, Daily Mail reports.
Clyne only joined the Reds from Southampton in a £12.5million deal this summer, but already believes that his new club can finally finish the campaign as champions.
Liverpool finished a close second during the 2013-2014 campaign, but last season were well below par and ended at sixth, missing out on playing in the Champions League.
But after a foray of new players including the £29million capture of Roberto Firmino and the £32million signing of Christian Benteke, Clyne is adamant they will once again be in and amongst the top-four.
“Two seasons ago, Liverpool were pushing and nearly won the league, so we’re not too far away and with the additions to the team this year, we are looking to push on again,” Clyne said for the Liverpool Echo.
“Hopefully we can push for the title this season.
“You can see with the team and the quality that we have got that we can have a special season.”
The Merseyside club will begin their Premier League campaign with a game against Stoke City at the Brittania Stadium, which was the same fixture on the last day of last season where they lost 6-1.
