Newcastle United midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa has dismissed talk that he will leave St James’ Park at the end of this season.
Ben Arfa has missed the majority of this season after a recurring hamstring problem but came off of the bench in the Toon’s Europa League exit at the hands of Benfica on Thursday night.
The French winger has a horrific injury history in his two years in the North East but when fit, he has shown just why Alan Pardew went all out to sign him in 2011.
The 26 year old had been linked with a summer move away from St James’ with talk of the French international being used in a deal to bring Liverpool striker Andy Carroll back to Newcastle.
Despite spending most of his time in the treatment room, Ben Arfa claims that Newcastle have a great side and that he wants to be part of that next season.
“I want to stay here,” Ben Arfa told the Evening Chronicle.
“It is only journalists who talk about that. Me and my agent have not talked about that. I am focused on Newcastle and 100% Newcastle. I hope to stay here.
“We have a great team. I’d love to play for this team in Europe again. We won’t next season but after that we can maybe go again.”
