However, the Ghana international decided to remain in Ligue-1 and play out the remainder of his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.
Marseille president Jose Anigo came out to reveal that Ayew is not likely to extend his deal and will be leaving the club.
“Andre Ayew is a confirmation I was able to make from my start here,” he said.
“I regret he will leave. He will not extend the contract, so I feel he will go.”
Magpies boss John Carver is believed to be keen on adding him into the squad, and was reportedly preparing to offer him a deal which would see him complete a switch to St James’ Park in the upcoming window.
Ayew has already made 20 league appearances, scoring six goals and providing another two assists so far this season.
