Newcastle and West Ham target set to stay with Swansea

Swansea manager Gary Monk has ruled out the chance of midfielder Jonjo Shelvey leaving South Wales this summer, as reported by Sky Sports.

Shelvey has impressed recently in a struggling Swans side and both Newcastle and West Ham have been linked with a summer move for the England international.

The 22 year old could make his third major career move if he is to leave Wales this summer, but sticking with a club for the long term is his aim for now.

Monk believes Shelvey is happy to stay and so has ruled out the chance of selling one of his best players at the end of the season.

“Jonjo is going nowhere. The club cannot afford to let a player of that calibre go because he is one for the future of this club,” Monk told Wales Online.

“He is an important player with potential and those are the ones we want at the club and we are in a healthy enough position not to have to sell.

“And I think Jonjo is happy here. It has been a difficult season for him but it’s one he has really learned from and you can see that in his form now.”
