Confirmed transfer: Newcastle beat rivals Boro and PL opposition to £4.5m deal

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Newcastle United have beaten Middlesbrough and Southampton to the signing of Gent goalkeeper Matz Sels.

The 24-year-old has just come to the end of a fine season in the Jupiler League, bagging 15 clean sheets in 30 appearances to claim the division’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.

He missed out on a place in Belgium’s Euro 2016 squad but has been called up before by Red Devils boss Marc Wilmots, after representing his country 19 times at youth international level.

But according to The Daily Mail, Matz Sels underwent a medical on Tyneside yesterday has now signed for Newcastle United in an official £4.5million transfer.

That could spell the end of Tim Krul’s Magpies career. Everton are reportedly chasing the Netherlands international, who will be sidelined with injury until October.
