Newcastle biding time over transfer bid

He's a player with something to prove

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is yet to bid for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent this summer, as reported by The Sun.

Pardew wants to bring two strikers to the North East this summer with Bent reportedly high on the list of targets but Villa are yet to receive any offers for him.

The former Sunderland striker is allowed to leave Villa Park this summer after falling down the pecking order under Paul Lambert and the club are prepared to make a loss on the England man after signing him for £18million back in 2011.

Newcastle are not alone in their hunt for Bent and Premier League new boys Hull City and Crystal Palace are also keen to sign the experienced striker who was once a regular in the England squads.

Fulham also want the 29 year old this summer but the forwards £65,000 a week wages seems to be a stumbling block for every team interested.
