Newcastle United are considering a move to sign former Chelsea star Ashley Cole from Roma, according to reports from the Express.
The 34-year-old completed a free transfer to the Serie A giants during the previous summer window, signing a two-year contract.
However, he struggled for game time over the course of the campaign, making only 16 appearances in all competitions last term.
Cole enjoyed huge success with the Gunners as well as the Blues throughout his career in England, winning numerous honours, including three league titles and one Champions League medal.
The left-back still has another year left on his current deal with Roma, but new Magpies boss Steve McClaren is hoping to lure him back to the Premier League on a season-long loan.
His side are set to undergo a squad overhaul ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with Monaco’s Aymen Abdennour and Schalke’s Joel Matip among the names linked with switches to St James’ Park.
