Sweden and PSV striker Ola Toivonen is the latest target for Newcastle United according to the Daily Mail this morning.
The 25 year old impressed in Eindhoven colours last season, scoring 18 goals in 33 games as his team came third in the Eredivisie.
The speculation with Toivonen could mark another potential move in the transfer market, as they last week had bids rejected from FC Twente for Luuk De Jong and have also been heavily linked with Lille right back Mathieu Debuchy.
A supposed £8 million but out clause for the Swede is attracting Newcastle, who last week had a £14 million bid for De Jong rejected. However, PSV may even take £5 million for their number 7 as they are sad to be facing a financial crisis.
The arrival of another striker to accompany January’s best bit of business Papiss Cisse could see Demba Ba on his way out of St James’ Park.
The Swede did not speak of a move to the North East of England specifically, but did state that; ‘If something interesting comes along, I will look into it.’ The magpies may need to fight off bids from Premier League rivals Tottenham, Liverpool and Sunderland, who are also interested in signing the 25 year old striker.
