Andros Townsend has had a change of heart about his Newcastle future and is looking to stay for just one season in the Championship in the North-east, according to the Chronicle.
The winger was distraught at being cut from Roy Hodgson’s England squad and consistent links to a move to another Premier League club have meant that a move has looked likely for the majority of this summer.
It is thought that the opportunity to work longer with Rafa Benitez played a huge part in Townsend’s decision, but, if the reports are to be believed, Townsend could yet make a move this summer. He is simply now more accepting of the idea of remaining at St James’ Park for one more year.
The former Tottenham man is thought to have a release clause of around £13 million and, if that was activated, a move could well still be on the cards this summer. However, this is hugely positive news for Newcastle fans as they battle to keep their best players this summer.
