Newcastle linked with Anderlecht star

Newcastle United are reportedly tracking Anderlecht goalkeeper Silvio Proto, after scouts from the Toon Army recently watched him in action.

The report in the Daily Mirror claims manager Alan Pardew is looking to add competition for the number one spot at St James’ Park. Proto is a current Belgian International and seems to be the man Pardew wants in order to keep Steve Harper and Tim Krul on their toes.

The six foot tall Proto has been in fine form for title chasing Anderlect this season, his team boasts the meanest defence in the league with only 20 goals against. The goalkeeping situation doesn’t appear to be an area of concern with Harper, Krul, Fraser Forster and Ole Soderberg, all currently employed by the club.

Tim Krul laid claim to his stake for the number one shirt with an outstanding display in the 0-0 draw on Tuesday night against Manchester United at St James’ Park. The 23 year old is likely to keep goal for the remainder of the season due to Steve Harper’s knee injury.

Any potential transfer for Proto’s services is only likely to enhance an already strong playing position at the club.
