Newcastle United are looking to sign out-of-favour Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes to replace injured star Tim Krul, according to reports from the Daily Star.
Krul sustained a knee ligament injury while on duty with the Netherlands national team and will miss the rest of the season, forcing the Magpies to immediately search for a new shot-stopper.
And it looks like their first-choice option is Valdes, who has become a peripheral figure at Old Trafford following a bust-up with manager Louis van Gaal during the summer.
Valdes was reportedly reluctant to play in the Red Devils reserve team, angering Van Gaal who publicly slammed the former Barcelona star.
However, Van Gaal isn’t keen on Valdes joining another Premier League club amid earlier interest from both Chelsea and Liverpool, but with Newcastle not a direct rival to United, the Dutchman may ease his stance.
Valdes, 33, only made two league appearances due to his own knee ligament injury last season, keeping one clean sheet.
