Newcastle quoted £7million for stopper

Jeroen Zoet

PSV have told Newcastle United that they must now pay £7million for goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet after declaring their interest in the summer, according to the Chronicle.

Toon boss Alan Pardew is cautious that a big club may come calling for number one Tim Krul in January with Arsenal and Barcelona among the long term admirers.

Sub stopper Rob Elliot has done nothing wrong at the club to date but Pardew would be keen to bring in a world class goalkeeper should Krul depart.

The North East club were interested in signing Zoet in the summer when the 22 year old was valued at just £2million but the Dutch under-international has since become the number one in Eindhoven and will now cost United up to £7million.

Krul has claimed that he is still happy to stay on Tyneside but the lure of Champions League football could be too much come the new year.
