Newcastle United have been hit with a blow after Jack Colback suffered a knee injury in the 3-0 loss to rivals Sunderland at the weekend, Express reports.
The 26-year-old has now been ruled out of action for at least six weeks as he is now expected to miss important matches against Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
A statement from the club confirmed the news as they also revealed that the knock was not as bad as first predicted.
“Jack Colback will be sidelined for up to six weeks with a knee injury, following further scans and assessment on Thursday,” he said.
“The injury is not as bad as first feared.”
He completed a free transfer from the Black Cats back in 2014 and has been a key member for the Magpies since his arrival, starting nine out of a possible ten games this term.
However, his team are current struggling to find form so far this season as they sit 19th in the Premier League after losing six out of their first 10 matches.
Manager Steve McClaren will now have to turn his attentions to his team’s upcoming clash against 14th place Stoke City at the weekend as he hopes to solve their current woes.
