Newcastle set launch season long loan bid

Newcastle United are set to launch a bid to sign Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge on loan, according to The Mirror

Magpies boss Alan Pardew is desperate to fill the void left by Andy Carroll and is weighing up a bid for the former Manchester City forward.

A price of £20 million has been placed on Sturridge’s shoulders, which would prove too much for Newcastle despite the £35 million windfall from the Carroll transfer; however Pardew may try and convince new Chelsea boss Andre-Villas Boas with a season-long loan offer.

The Magpies boss is desperate to bring in a striker to St James, after top target Melvut Erdinc recently snubbed a move to Tyneside opting to fight for his place at PSG instead.

Pardew’s failure to capture the Turkish striker has forced him into a having a re-think and turn his attentions towards Sturridge.

The England Under-21 striker’s successful loan spell at Bolton last season highlighted his growing potential with eight goals in 12 games displaying his goal-scoring prowess.
