Newcastle set to move for Manchester City ace

Manchester City Defender Micah Richards

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is set to make a surprise January move for Manchester City defender Micah Richards, according to the Daily Mail.

Richards was offered a new long term deal at the Etihad in the summer while injured but the England right back wants confirmation of first team football before committing himself to the club he has been at for the last eight years.

Newcastle are desperate for defensive options and the versatility of Richards is something that Pardew is keen on ahead of another busy January transfer window for the Toon.

Richards is currently one of the lesser earners in the City first team squad and Newcastle could certainly offer the financial rewards if the 25 year old chose to move to the North East.

With vice-captain and star of last season Pablo Zabaleta the first choice right back under boss Manuel Pellegrini, Newcastle may have competition to take the unhappy right back in the new year.
