Newcastle set to move for Sunderland outcast

Phil Bardsley

Newcastle United director of football Joe Kinnear is not going to win over many supporters by bidding for Sunderland right back Phil Bardsley but that isn’t stopping him, according to the Express.

Paolo Di Canio has told the former Manchester United youth player that he is no longer wanted at the Stadium of Light and is free to leave.

Kinnear has made an approach to Sunderland over taking the right back across the North East to their bitter rivals.

Toon supporters have urged the club to make some signings as they are the only Premier League club yet to bolster their side in any may this summer.

Fulham and Blackburn are also looking at a cheap deal to drag Bardsley away from Sunderland but Kinnear is keen to make Newcastle his destination after defender Danny Simpson joined QPR.

Newcastle have also made moves for striker Baafetimbi Gomis and Loic Remy but time is running out if Kinnear is going to give Pardew some added firepower to start the season with.
