Jonjo Shelvey has made a significant statement about his disappointment at Newcastle’s current position, as recorded by Sky Sports when he spoke on their Fantasy Football Clubs how.
As is usual with the show, Shelvey was asked to name an XI of the best players he has played with during his career. Newcastle players did not feature in the former Charlton man’s selection and he even opted for former Addick, Chris Solly, ahead of any of the current Magpies.
Rafa Benitez, who was appointed Newcastle boss yesterday, will be hoping this isn’t a sign of Shelvey’s lack of faith in his team mates. The Magpies face league leaders Leicester on Monday and are currently one of the favourites for relegation.
Surprisingly, Shelvey included Alberto Aquilani ahead of Wijnaldum or Sissoko and even picked the much-maligned Jose Enrique at left-back.
The former Liverpool man has only played for England on four occasions, but found space for Wayne Rooney in his front line, along side Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez.
