Newcastle United are close to completing the signing of Anderlecht ace Chancel Mbemba, with a medical set to be arranged in the next 24 hours, according to reports from Sky Sports.
Mbemba has been heavily linked with a move to St. James’ Park in recent weeks, and the Toon Army look to have secured his capture after the two clubs agreed on a £8million fee.
His arrival will make him Newcastle’s third signing of the summer after bringing in Georginio Wijnaldum from PSV Eindhoven and Aleksandar Mitrovic, also from Anderlecht.
If the transfer fee is to be believed, then it will take the Tyneside club’s summer expenditure to around £36million, with Wijnaldum arriving for £14.5million and Mitrovic for £13million respectively.
Mbemba, 20, is a highly-rated young centre-back who has made six appearances for the Republic of Congo, with Tottenham Hotspur previously keen on his services.
Last season, Mbemba made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.
